Interurban

In 1908, Richardson became a stop on the Interurban, an electric railway, between the cities of Dallas, Sherman and Fort Worth. The interurban became a vital link for communities until the popularity of the automobile caused a decline in revenue. In 1948, the interurban railway ceased operations.

Properties in the Interurban area were first developed in the late 1940s and early 1950s. As Richardson’s first industrial and manufacturing district, these properties played an important role with the City’s rich business and technology history. Today, Richardson’s Interurban Street pays tribute to the history of the Interurban railway, which runs adjacent to the active DART Light Rail. Over the past five years, new businesses have opened on Interurban, including Richardson’s first brewery.
